I love to dye my own threads, as you know. But no matter how careful I am with the skeins, this kind of jumble seems to be inevitable after a while:
The creases are often permanent, and are particularly vicious on viscose threads, meaning that you have to either wet the thread or iron it if you want to make something like tassels (where you want the thread to drape, not stick out at right angles). Also, the crease can weaken the thread after a while.
So I made some little rolled up cardboard tubes – from pieces of scrap card, about 2″ x 3″ – and tried that for an alternative:
